When a repair falls outside our standard guarantee
In most cases, all of our jewellery repairs come with a full 12-month guarantee for your peace of mind. However, there are some situations where this is not possible.
This typically applies when an item is significantly worn, structurally compromised, or made from materials that are no longer reliable. In these cases, while we may still be able to carry out a repair, we cannot confidently guarantee how long it will last.
Why can’t a guarantee be offered?
Over time, jewellery can weaken due to wear, previous repairs, or the condition of the original metal. Common reasons include:
- Severely worn or thin metal
- Brittle, cracked, or porous materials
- Multiple previous repairs in the same area
- Structural fatigue or stress fractures
In these situations, the surrounding material may no longer be strong enough to support a long-lasting repair.
A repair most others wouldn’t attempt
In many of these cases, other jewellers may simply refuse the repair altogether.
Where possible, we take a different approach. If we believe there is a reasonable chance of improving the item, we may offer a repair to return it to a wearable condition, even if that outcome cannot be guaranteed long-term.
This gives you the option to extend the life of a piece that might otherwise be considered beyond repair.
What this means for you
If your item falls into this category, we will always:
- Clearly explain the condition of the item before any work is carried out
- Confirm that the repair is not covered by our standard guarantee
- Provide honest advice on whether the repair is worthwhile
The repair is carried out entirely at your own risk.
Due to the condition of the item, the repair may last for years, last for a short period, or fail at any time. By choosing to proceed, you accept that Jewellery Doctor cannot take responsibility for any future failure of the repair or the surrounding material.
Our approach
Even without a guarantee, every repair is carried out with the same level of care, skill, and attention to detail.
The only difference is that we cannot stand behind the longevity of the repair due to factors outside of our control.
We believe in being transparent and giving you the choice, rather than turning away items that may still have some life left in them.
When is this a good option?
A repair without guarantee may still be the right choice if:
- The item has sentimental value
- Replacement is not possible or desirable
- You would like to make the item wearable again
- You understand and accept the risks involved
